• HIIT (high intensity interval training) for children aged 8+ accompanied by an adult
• Boutique-style classes held in a purpose built studio
A new dynamic workout for families is rolling out at David Lloyd Clubs around the UK, shaking up the family exercise space and safely introducing children to HIIT training in a boutique-style studio set to high energy dance music .
Inspired by David Lloyd Clubs’ popular signature class BLAZE, the new BLAZE REBELS classes see children aged 8+ joining the grown-ups in David Lloyd Clubs’ uniquely designed studios for a carefully programmed, energy burning 35-minute group exercise session.
Each class features a series of short bursts of activity to get the heart pumping, combining mixed martial arts with cardio and strength training. Activities are based at one of three stations: a Woodway treadmill, a bespoke weight bench, and a suspended light punchbag. Participants will spend three minutes in a zone before moving on to the next one, completing the entire circuit twice.
Commenting on the launch, Michelle Dand, Group Head of Fitness Products and Programming David Lloyd Leisure, said: “Our family members tell us that when their children reach around eight, they feel ready to start more challenging exercise but finding something that the whole family can do together is difficult. I’m thrilled to be trialling BLAZE REBELS at Clubs across the UK and can’t wait to see our younger members joining in.
“We’ve carefully choreographed each session to ensure children can safely enjoy the benefits of HIIT training in a lot of the same ways that adults can, with the benefits of improved cardiovascular health, greater strength and stamina.
“Most of all, we want to spark a love of exercise and give children a buzz about fitness. Classes are a lot of fun with a brilliant playlist to get everyone motivated. Don’t be surprised if your kids get hooked!”
Every session starts with a warmup followed by two rotations through the workout zones and a cool down to finish up. The three different workout zones are:
• Cardio zone: Running and walking at various speeds and inclines on Woodway curve treadmills.
• Strength zone: A range of different weights exercises at a bespoke weight bench to work different muscle groups. Lighter weights and lighter sandbells are used.
• Combat zone: You’ll punch, kick and grapple with a suspended punch bag and weighted core sandbags.
Using MyZone technology, participants can track their workout on the studio’s interactive screen as they go, which is great for keeping the kids engaged and striving towards giving their best in each session.
