Teenagers and Young Adults at David Lloyd Clubs

At David Lloyd Clubs, options for children don’t just end when the kids move from primary school to secondary school.

We’re passionate about ensuring the opportunity to remain healthy and active is available to young people of all ages, including teenagers, where there is often a drop off in participation in regular exercise and physical activity.

From independent time in the gym or in the pool, to joining the family in a group exercise class, there are plenty of activities for teenagers to get involved and remain active with at David Lloyd Clubs.

Go solo in the gym

We know that as children progress into their teenage years, they strive for further freedom and to enjoy activities independently, away from the family. At David Lloyd, our Fitness into Teens programme is designed to do just that, allowing our younger members to progress from structured, closely supervised activities towards options that give them more freedom to do their own thing.

Children aged 10+ are encouraged to take part in our Gym Start Up programme, which provides a simple induction to introduce them to various pieces of gym equipment and to ensure that they are comfortable in using the gym safely and correctly. Following the completion of this induction, children are free to use the gym during supervised gym sessions or when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those aged 15 and above can use the gym freely with no supervision.

Stay involved with swimming and tennis

Older kids are also able to get involved with swim and tennis activities at David Lloyd Clubs.

Children aged 10+ can use the pool by themselves during family swim times upon completion of a Shark Test, which we use to ensure a child will be safe and competent in the pool. If swimming is a real passion, our Swim Team sessions could be ideal, with weekly hour-long sessions aimed at perfecting swimming technique and improving stamina. Older teenagers aged 16 and above can use the pool independently during adult swim time as well as the sauna, steam room and poolside spas. Our gated spas, also known as Spa Retreats, Amida Spas and Celsius Spas can be used by over 18s.

For young members aged between 11-18 who are keen to play tennis, we continue with weekly lessons with our LTA-qualified coaches to fully develop their game. We also offer fun social club sessions, junior cardio tennis and a variety of competitions for teenagers to get involved with.

Enjoy a place to workout with the family

We know that precious family time in a comfortable environment can be difficult to find. At David Lloyd Clubs, our family-friendly exercise classes can give the perfect opportunity for families with teenagers to spend time together whilst staying healthy and active.

If working out in the gym together isn’t working out for you, try out a group exercise session. Test out your skills on 2 wheels with a family cycling class, or enjoy a family circuits session – which is based on the gym floor and utilises a range of gym equipment to provide a varied, energetic class for the whole family. Alternatively, head outdoors to the Battlebox, home to our bootcamp-style fitness classes, including Battlebox Play, where you’ll need to work as a team and use speed, agility and balance to succeed.

Plus if you’re aged 14 or over, you can join in a number of other group classes, including Zumba, BODYPUMP™ and Yoga.

Relax, revise or recharge

Most teenagers value having a place they can go to enjoy some independent time away from the family. Our inviting Club Rooms provide a safe, relaxed and comfortable environment for young people to meet friends and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat. Whether that’s before or after a workout, or simply as a social activity of its own, it’s your club to use as you wish.

Plus, with the pressure of exams and coursework consistently increasing, we’re also a great place to come to get your head down with some revision. Working in a different environment can give you new impetus and help to boost concentration levels.
