David Lloyd Leisure (“David Lloyd”, “the Company”), Europe’s leading premium health and wellness group, announces today the next phase of its growth strategy in the UK, with £500m being invested over the next three to four years.
David Lloyd has reported strong revenue, EBITDA and membership growth over the past few years, as management continue to execute the UK growth strategy – driven by the opening of more clubs and enhancing the members’ experience. With high membership renewal rates and strong demand across the country, David Lloyd has exciting investment, innovation and growth plans to meet this demand, and continue its momentum.
Over the next three years, David Lloyd will open 15 new clubs across the country including sites at Herne Bay, Nantwich, and Newland Park. Alongside increasing the number of clubs, David Lloyd is continuing to invest in enhancing the members’ experience. Some of the initiatives include opening a further 50 Spa Retreats across the current estate, largely coming from the UK, and investing in 60 new padel courts, due to be opened by the year end. Both initiatives broaden the offer of year-round outdoor fitness and wellness opportunities.
Critically, alongside this investment and growth, David Lloyd remains committed to reducing its impact on the planet. All new clubs will be built with a focus on sustainability including the installation of solar panels and energy efficient technology such as low energy LED lighting on tennis courts and green heating and cooling systems. These efforts are part of our target to become net zero by 2030, as aligned to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI). If accredited, we will become part of the top 1% of international organisations for our net zero ambition.
Chief Executive Russell Barnes said:
“Today, I am excited to announce a significant milestone in David Lloyd Leisure's journey as Europe's leading premium health and wellness group. Following a period of strong financial and operational performance, we have committed £500m to further enrich our UK offering, a significant investment designed to enhance the member experience.
A considerable proportion of this investment is being directed to expanding the range of year-round facilities available to members with the aim of further elevating our position at the top end of the sector. We are currently the UK’s largest padel provider and aim to expand our presence by opening over 60 new courts in the next year, whilst further investing in our spa and relaxation spaces, to help members focus on their health and wellbeing. We believe an expansion to fifteen further sites across the UK will bring David Lloyd’s world class facilities and expertise to new members, growing and strengthening the business.”
