David Lloyd Chigwell has reaffirmed its position as Essex’s leading health, spa, fitness and racquets club, as it throws open its doors following a £4m investment programme. With the work complete, the club now offers unrivalled facilities to support members with their wellness needs, whether that’s fitness, relaxation or socialising with friends and family.
The centre piece of the redevelopment is the luxurious super-spa; known as the Spa Retreat. Set within a newly built wing of the club, it’s a world away from anywhere, with extensive state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor facilities. Heat, cool and relax are the three guiding principles of the expertly designed ‘spa journey’, scientifically designed to boost overall wellness and help relax, unwind and escape.
Heat rooms are infused with tailor-made aromatherapy blends to relax, with essential oils of lavender, mandarin, patchouli, ylang and eucalyptus; to repair, with rosemary, peppermint, lavender, spearmint and olibanum; and to energise with mandarin, peppermint, lemongrass, eucalyptus, lemon and lime.
Crystal steam room
The pure Amethyst crystal has a powerful healing energy. Within this room, the heat therapy combined with our bespoke aromatherapy blend relaxes the body and soothes the mind.
With its origins in ancient Roman baths, heat is channelled from the walls and seating as oppose to a steam injection. It is infused with our ‘Energise’ essential oil blend.
Himalayan salt sauna
Salt improves health and mood, reduces headaches and aids better sleep patterns. It can reduce mucus and inflammation in the lungs, improving respiratory conditions such as allergies, asthma and sinus congestion. The dry heat eases joint and muscle pain, boosts immune system as well as helps to detox the body. By gently raising the heart rate, it aids circulation.
Immersing in cold water between heat treatments soothes tired muscles after exercising, improves the immune system and boosts circulation.
The indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools gently massage and relax the body. There are two deep relaxation rooms: one with beds for meditation and one with suspended cocoons. Within its meditation room guests can experience Binaural Beats sound wave therapy. This innovative and emerging form of audio healing is tailored to each ailment, with sound waves delivered through earphones, with the right and left ears listening to two slightly different frequency tones.
New equipment & wider improvements
Together with the investment in the relaxation facilities, come improvements to the more active areas of the club; the tennis courts and gym. The eight indoor courts have received new nets and backdrops, as well as LED lighting. Two new badminton courts have also been installed for members to enjoy.
Fitness enthusiasts can up their performance with all the new hi-tech equipment, including: Five Mobility equipment for stretching and recovery, Woodway Curves and Woodway 4front treadmills, Synrgy XL functional rig- functional kit to create a unique training space made for small group exercise classes, ski ergs (indoor ski cardio machines), assault bikes and Stages Solo bikes. The free weights area has also doubled in size, as well as new floor finishes throughout.
The central hub of the club, the Clubroom, has also undergone a stylish refurbishment, with zones for families and adults to relax, socialise and enjoy the delicious food and drinks menu.
New class - Blaze
Earlier this year the club launched a brand new boutique-style HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) class, Blaze, which has proved to be hugely popular with members. Blaze tests strength, stamina, and willpower as individuals make their way round the cardio, free weights and boxing stations, all tracked by a Myzone heart-rate monitor with results displayed on large screens around the studio.
David Lloyd Chigwell’s General Manager, Jorge Fernandes said: “We’ve promised to invest in the club to make it bigger and better than ever. Our brand new luxury Spa Retreat is set to rival the top spas in the UK and I think our members will love the new stylish indoor and outdoor spas which are a stunning place to relax and unwind after a workout or busy day. In addition the upgraded tennis and gym facilities as well as the new badminton courts will offer racquets sport enthusiasts an improved experience. We also launched our new Blaze HIIT class, which is held in its own hi-tech studio, and has proved to be extremely popular amongst our members. This investment is exactly what Chigwell needed and firmly places it as the top health and fitness clubs in Essex.”
In addition to the new and refurbished facilities, David Lloyd Chigwell offers DL Kids facilities with over 30 hours of inclusive junior sessions each week, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, paddle courts, adults and kids splash pool, group exercise studios including a dedicated cycling studio, destination wet spa facilities, a restaurant and café bar, crèche and free members Wi-Fi.
