Outdoor gym facilities

Make the most of working out in the great outdoors with our open air gyms, which will bring you the equipment you need to enjoy a challenging workout and get back to a normal training routine.

Choose from cardio machines, free weights, or functional training equipment - all set up in spacious areas so you feel safe and comfortable. We'll also be offering PT sessions, so you can enjoy the added benefits of training face to face under the guidance of our experts.

All of our outdoor gyms will have limited capacity, which is maintained via a pre-booking system on the David Lloyd app. Plus, with individual 3m x 3m workout areas, social distancing measures including plenty of space between each piece of equipment, sanitisation stations and regular cleaning, outdoor training at David Lloyd Clubs is designed to create the environment you need to work out both safely and efficiently.

Outdoor Classes

Our extensive programme of outdoor exercise classes brings you daily holistic, strength and conditioning, cardio and HIIT classes - all in the open air.

From Group Cycling to Battlebox and Functional Bootcamp to Legs, Bums & Core, you'll find a class that suits you and you can rest assured we're doing all we can to keep you safe while taking part.

We're limiting class sizes to 5 members per session (in England, 9 members for Northern Ireland and 14 members in Ireland), and scheduling our timetable to give ample time between classes for our thorough cleaning procedures.

As well as Social Distancing, smaller class sizes will help you to hone your technique and enjoy a more individual training experience from our expert trainers.

Plus, if you're unable to get to the club as often as you'd like, you can still access the fantastic range of live and On Demand content available to you via a free 14 day trial of the David Lloyd app and [email protected]

Open Air Group Cycling

There is no better place to clock up the miles than the great outdoors and we've developed outdoor cycling studios to bring you our state-of-the-art cycling programme and Stages bikes in the open air.

Located on our outdoor terraces and courts and led by our expert instructors, you'll be able to choose from Stages Power, Rhythm and Group Cycling sessions. Plus, with limited class sizes, bikes spaced at least 2m apart and thorough cleaning between classes, rest assured that you'll be able to ride safely.

If you can't get to the club as often as you'd like, you can access a whole programme of our tailor made On Demand Rhythm classes in our app, as well as specialist Pilates and Yoga sessions for cyclists to help strengthen your core and stretch out after a long ride.

Battlebox

If you love exercising outdoors, and get a thrill from bootcamp-style fitness classes which challenge your whole body, you'll love Battlebox.

Combining full body fitness training and high energy challenges, a Battlebox class will challenge you physically and mentally, whilst being plenty of fun at the same time.

We've modified our Battlebox programme to create Battlebox GT, giving your the same exhilarating workout but keeping safety at the forefront, as you exercise in an individual workout zone and use non-permeable equipment that is easy to clean.

Outdoor Yoga & Pilates

There are few better ways to relax than with the calming stretching of the body involved in a yoga or Pilates class. Perhaps even more relaxing is the idea of doing this in the open air, with the warm sun on your back. Our outdoor yoga and Pilates sessions will give you the chance to do just that.

We're being creative with our outdoor mind and body studios, and will even be using the peaceful surrounds of the outdoor pool and Spa Garden at selected clubs, with the sound of moving water and tranquil music helping to enhance your mood. Plus, don't worry about feeling chilly - our classes will be adapted to ensure the session is dynamic and keeps your muscles moving.

Plus, with small class sizes, plenty of distance between participants and thorough cleaning between classes, your safety is our priority.

Kids classes

It's not just the grown ups who are able to enjoy our outdoor training options. We're also running two daily outdoor classes for 5-7 and 8-11 year olds, giving the kids the opportunity to stay active too.

We're adapting our Action Squad, Sports Squad and Scooter Squad sessions so they can be done safely outdoors. Each child will be given a Sports Square to allow them to maintain a safe social distance between themselves and others. We'll also sanitise all equipment before each class and make sure that equipment is not shared during classes. Find out more here.

Plus, these hour-long kids sessions will run alongside our group exercise classes so you can enjoy a workout while the little ones let off some steam.

  • Sports Squad - kids will explore a new sport each week by learning the rules, doing drills and playing games.
  • Action Squad - this class is all about fitness fun and sports challenges, which help kids to develop social skills and team work.
  • Scooter Squad - gets little ones playing scooter games, mastering new tricks and learning how to stay safe. (Available at selected Clubs)

Tennis

Alongside our fitness and group classes, we've also reopened a number of our outdoor tennis courts, so you don't have to miss out on the tennis season.

Courts are available for members aged 5 and above, so whether you're a racquets lover or new to the sport, you can enjoy a game of singles or doubles on our match quality courts. We're also introducing group coaching sessions, as well as organised social sessions, to give you even more opportunity to get on court with fellow members.

To make sure you stay safe, courts must be booked in advance before arrival, and we have set aside 10 minutes between bookings to allow staff to clean all touchpoints and ready the playing area for the next players.

Weather

While we'd love to say that all of our classes will take place under blue skies and bright sunshine, it's likely that the British weather may have other ideas at certain points.

We intend to run all classes regardless of the weather, with adaptations made to ensure you remain safe at all times. For example, our cycling classes will take place beneath large 'jumbrellas', while our yoga and Pilates classes will be made more dynamic to ensure you keep moving and stay warm. If the weather does get the better of us, we will inform you of any cancellations at the earliest opportunity.

We would also encourage all members wishing to take part in outdoor training to make sure they have suitable clothing for whatever the weather throws at us.
