What is HIIT?

HIIT stands for ‘High Intensity Interval Training’. This involves working out in short, intense bursts ranging from 20 seconds to three minutes, at over 80% of your maximum heart rate, followed by short recovery periods. The reason HIIT is so popular as a form of training, is the way it maximises your time spent working out to increase fitness levels, tone muscles and burn calories. It also offers a nice bonus, the ‘EPOC’ effect which can potentially allow you to burn more calories for 24 hours after your workout. So, basically, you can achieve more in less time with a HIIT workout.

To get the most out of your HIIT experience, we recommend using a heart rate monitor to ensure you’re training in the right HR zones at the right time to maximise your results.

What is Myzone and how do I get a belt?

Myzone is an innovative wearable heart rate tracking system that can accurately monitor physical activity. It can help to ‘gameify’ your workout experience and encourages you to work harder and become accountable for your own fitness journey. Get the most out of your HIIT

We asked Alastair, our Head of Blaze and Battlebox for a couple of top tips to bear in mind when getting started with HIIT.

"Remember there are two I’s in HIIT! We can be so focused on the intense part of our intervals, it’s easy to overlook a key part of interval training - the recovery period! Tracking your workout with a heart rate monitor can ensure you have hit the appropriate recovery heart rate zones before you push for the next High Intensity Interval.

HIIT can be as frequent as 2-4 times per week. We would recommend: 1-2 days a week for a beginner or someone completely new to HIIT, 2-3 for intermediate fitness level, and 3-4 for advanced."

How do I book if I have a Myzone belt?

  1. Open the latest version of David Lloyd Clubs app.
  2. Open up your timetable.
  3. Find a class that suits you.
  4. Click 'Book in Myzone app'.
  5. Find the class in the Myzone app.
  6. Book said class.
  7. Get in the zone.

How do I book if I don't have a Myzone belt?

  1. Download the Myzone app.
  2. Search for David Lloyd {Club Name} in the facility code.
  3. Set your Myzone Belt ID to '0'.
  4. Complete your registration.
  5. Click 'Book A Class' then Click 'Timetable'.
  6. Find a class at a time that suits you and book the class.
  7. When it's time, tap the Workout tile and then hit MZ-Remote to start the class.     
  8. Get in the zone!

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need a Myzone belt to do it? No, the belt enhances the experience but you’re able to still take part if you don't have a Myzone belt.
  • How do I book on? To get involved, open the David Lloyd mobile app and you’ll be able to find when classes are scheduled and book your place as you would for a class in Club. The completion of the booking will be in the Myzone app, so you’ll also need to have that app downloaded to your phone or tablet.
  • I try and book on but I’m not able to complete the booking in the DL app? Make sure you’ve got the latest version of the app downloaded. You should then be able to complete the booking. If you have the latest version installed, you should see a BOOK IN MYZONE APP button at the bottom of the class description page. This should redirect you to the Myzone app for you to complete your booking.
