September also sees the UK celebrate National Spa Week (16th – 22nd September) and what better way to get in the mood than visiting one of David Lloyd Clubs’ new Spa Retreats.
David Lloyd Clubs has built four brand new state-of-the-art Spa Retreats at Farnham, Royal Berkshire and Purley with Chigwell opening in September and one more opening at Cambridge in December. The Spa Retreat at David Lloyd Clubs
The unique super-spas known as Spa Retreats offer stylish indoor and outdoor luxury spas, set to be a key destination to take you away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
There are few better activities for overall wellness than spending some much-deserved down time relaxing in a spa. Regular spa usage, alongside a varied, active lifestyle will not only promote relaxation but also provides some important health benefits, such as detoxification, easing arthritis and joint pain, improved immune system, and relief from muscle pain and soft tissue injuries.
The Spa Retreat offering also includes an extensive new leafy Spa Garden with a spa pool, external sauna cabin with a feature shower and landscaped seating area with a cosy fire pit and loungers, providing the perfect spot for members to rest their mind and body even on a cooler day or evening.
The Spa Retreat offers a wide variety of heat therapies and cooling treatments. Heat, cool and relax are the three guiding principles of the expertly designed ‘spa journey’, scientifically designed to boost overall wellness and help relax, unwind and escape.

Heat rooms are infused with tailor-made aromatherapy blends:
• Relax – essential oils of lavender, mandarin, patchouli, ylang and eucalyptus to reduce stress, improve sleep, aid relaxation and improve body and mind.
• Repair – rosemary, peppermint, lavender, spearmint and olibanum to restore body and mind and can improve memory, relieve sore muscles and cleans detoxify and heal the skin.
• Energise - Infused with mandarin, peppermint, lemongrass, eucalyptus, lemon and lime, it will energise cleanses and revitalises by improving circulation, stimulating brain activity, tones muscles, tissues and skin.
Crystal steam room
The pure Amethyst crystal has a powerful healing energy. When combined with essential oils, it eliminates toxins, opens the pores and relieves tension. The humidity relaxes muscles, moisturises skin, reduces joint and limb pain.
Citrus steam room
Infused with citrus oils to improve skins, support immune and digestive systems, fight infections and boost energy.
Himalayan salt sauna
Salt improves health and mood, reduce headaches and aid better sleep patterns. It can reduce mucus and inflammation in the lungs, improving respiratory conditions such as allergies, asthma and sinus congestion.
The dry heat eases joint and muscle pain, boost immune system as well as detoxes the system. By raising the heart rate it aids circulation.
Used in rotation with the heat rooms, rubbing the skin with ice flakes improve circulation, relaxing muscles, reducing pain and inflammation post-workout.
Rainforest drench & peppermint aromatherapy showers
A luxurious way to cool down. Different water effects, together with music and lighting create an unforgettable sensation that flush out toxins, improve skin and tone. Infused with aromatherapy oils to promote feelings of contentment.
Immersing in cold water between heat treatments soothe tired muscles after exercising, improve immune system and boost circulation.
Indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools to gently massage and relax the body.

The UK’s first sound wave therapy class launching exclusively at selected Spa Retreats at David Lloyd Clubs this summer. This innovative and emerging form of audio healing is personalised to each ailment with different waves for every problem and sees the right and left ears listen to two slightly different frequency tones. Sit down, relax and listen to a specialised sound system designed to help relieve stress and anxiety and even help improve concentration and motivation.
Spa at David Lloyd Clubs
All David Lloyd Clubs across the UK offer spa facilities which are perfect place to relax after swimming a few laps of the pool or a workout in the gym. Most clubs offer a sauna, steam room and whirlpools where members can soak sore and tired muscles in a warm whirlpool, sweat out toxins and de-stress in a hot sauna, or simply inhale and exhale on one of the heated beds.
