- David Lloyd Clubs introduces workout to classical music –
• Classical music is on the rise, with a whopping 270% increase in listeners from 2018 to 2019, and under-35’s accounting for nearly half
• Millennials are also swapping their shots for squats, with 54% saying they would rather go to the gym than to a night club
• In response, David Lloyd Clubs has put a new twist on its popular boutique- style HIIT class, Blaze, where the adrenaline pumping workout will be set to classical music
We’re used to high-energy workout soundtracks being full of techno, pop and the hit tunes, right? Apparently not. Recent research by streaming service Deezer and The Royal Albert Hall has found that there’s been a huge increase (270%) in the streaming of popular classical playlists. And the age group that’s going barmy for Bach? The under-35’s accounted for nearly half (45%) of those listeners.
As well as this, a survey by David Lloyd Clubs* recently found that over half of 18-35-year-old Brits (54%) say they would rather go to the gym than to a night club and are generally waving goodbye to a party lifestyle as they look for a healthier life. With the notion that listening to classical music can raise dopamine levels and treat mental health issues, it’s no wonder that it’s been on the rise in recent years.
With these factors in mind, David Lloyd Clubs popular HIIT class Blaze is having a makeover to make sure that the class-goers are fully in the zone. Introducing Classical Blaze – a twist on the original adrenaline pumping boutique-style HIIT class with an exclusively classical-based playlist for participants to lift weights, run and practice combat to.
Created by top club DJs, there’ll be violins, trumpets and double bass’ galore, as well as plenty of drama and absolutely no scrimping on crescendos to get your heart pumping and head in the game
Blaze class participants wear a MyZone heart rate monitor during the class, and their activity levels are tracked and displayed on screens around the studio. This makes Blaze the ideal class to attend with friends for some healthy, friendly competition.
Classical Blaze will run at selected Blaze classes on 25th September.
Michelle Dand, Head of Fitness, Product and Programming at David Lloyd Clubs says, “ We know that playing the right music is key to a great workout which is why we employ some of Europe’s top club DJs to curate our epic Blaze soundtracks. When we heard that classical music is on trend, we knew that we had to feature it. What better way to keep you going on your sprints, dead lifts and combat moves than the uplifting sounds of striking violins and cellos.”
