David Lloyd Clubs reveal the new fitness trends for this year

Rev up your workout in 2017

Studio Group Exercise Yoga

Switch: Sweating Solo for Group Training

Avid fitness fans and newbies alike are opting for small group sessions that give the personal approach with an instructor present to motivate and advise whilst enjoying the social element of group interaction. The trend which has seen influence from the programmes such as crossfit is set to continue as more and more classes are becoming available.

Fun SYNRGY360 classes are available at David Lloyd Clubs; a gym floor class which has many variations. For example the current popular class is ‘Snow Fit’ targetted to getting ‘snow fit’ in time for the ski season.

Switch: Giving the ‘no time’ excuse for the buzz of HIIT

This is not a new trend but one that has increased in popularity with influence from the likes of The Body Coach raising the profile of fast high energy fitness. The need to fit in workouts with an ever demanding lifestyle isn’t going anywhere so those looking for results without the time commitment can raise their heart rate and fire up those fitness levels with classes such as Les Mills Grit, 30 minutes of adrenaline pumping fun which promises to continue burning that Christmas excess off long after the scheduled half an hour.

Switch: The focus from physical to mental health

Not forgetting the physical benefits of exercise but the trend towards a more holistic approach to how we are spending our leisure time is a growing trend and need for those feeling a little frazzled. David Lloyd Club’s leading partner Les Mills is introducing more programmes to re-address the balance, as part of the on demand service, the brand now have a Les Mills Barre, Les Mills Vinyasa Yoga and Les Mills Mindfulness sessions available. Those who take part in vigorous activities are being eased into calmer workouts through the likes of Broga, a tough take on yoga. With dedicated Mind & Body Studios, David Lloyd Clubs offer an increasing amount of classes to work on not just a healthy body but a healthy mind too.

Switch: The aesthetic results to solid health indicators

It’s hard to step away from the obvious indicators when looking to reach a goal and traditional ways of looking at progress; weight, body fat and muscle mass are still key indicators to progress. Moving forward however and technology today has advanced to give us a lot more of an educational view. Step on to a boditrax machine and within seconds 14 stats are revealed, and easily broken down with the help of a professional. The key statistics which are ones to watch are the visceral fat rating – looking at the fat deposited around vital organs and the metabolic age rating the machine gives. There really is no escape that age is not just a number in society today. The mindset of those looking to make changes is adjusting and people don’t just want to be healthy from the outside but be younger from the inside out too.

Switch: Solo adult workouts to healthy time spent as a family

Time poor families are constantly seeking the ultimate balance. The trend for being more active as a family is on the rise with a backlash against having too much screen-time prevalent. Families are learning that encouraging activity together is encouraging children to form healthy habits that stay with them. Look out for family-friendly group exercise Prama, making its UK debut in 2017 in David Lloyd Clubs, set to be the Holy Grail between fun activity and interactive technology. Whether training apart or together, a shift in how we spend social time as a family is changing.
