The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, partnering with employee-experience platform WorkL, surveyed over 5000 of David Lloyd Clubs’ UK team with 35 questions to find out how valued and engaged they feel to be part of the David Lloyd Clubs. The independent and anonymous survey asked for views and opinions about management, working environment and culture.
The accreditation comes on the back of a David Lloyd Clubs’ post-pandemic boost in membership, seeing a 27% bounce from February 2021 as the nation emerged from lockdown, to the end of 2022.
David Lloyd Clubs, which has 131 clubs and employs a team of around 10,000, continues with its ambitious Club growth plans. In 2022 it opened new build Clubs Cricklewood and Bicester, and acquired three Clubs in Spain from Accura in Barcelona, Málaga and Zaragoza as well as La Finca and Serrano in Madrid. Earlier this year, it acquired Wickwoods Country Club near Brighton. Later this year it will open new-build Clubs in Shawfair, Edinburgh and Rugby, as well as a third Club in Belgium at Sterrebeek, near Brussels.
David Lloyd Clubs is committed to being as sustainable as possible, pledging to become carbon net zero by 2030, 20 years earlier than the current UK target. It has invested £20million on energy efficient technology, with 100% of its UK electricity coming from renewable sources and is the first health and fitness Club in the UK to gain a water self-supply license.
David Lloyd Clubs is also one of the founding supporters of Change Please since 2020 and its biggest corporate partner. Every cup of Change Please award-winning coffee sold contributes towards helping people experiencing homelessness and offers them a living wage job, housing, training, and onward employment opportunities.
The money raised at David Lloyd Clubs has helped 190 people access training programs lasting three to six months to help trainees build the skills and confidence to move into employment. The group has gifted Change Please two mobile coffee vans which have been used to sell coffee at cultural events across the UK.
As well as larger national organisations, David Lloyd Clubs supports local groups and charities in the communities in which it operates. Last year for example, David Lloyd Clubs Newbury raised £35,000 for New Life special care babies units charity with a 24 hour sportathon.
Russell Barnes, David Lloyd Clubs CEO commented; “I’m very proud that we have ranked in the top 10 of the very large organisations in The Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work list.
“We are fully committed to delivering exceptional member experience as well as developing a sense of community for our members and team alike. We have heavily invested in our people as we know that they are critical to delivering that premium experience, and I’m delighted that they are genuinely passionate about what they do and really enjoy their time at work.”
“The last three years has seen turbulent times for many businesses, but thanks to the hard work and commitment of our teams, we are fortunate to have emerged from it stronger than ever.”
