The health, wellbeing and safety of our members is our number one priority. We have introduced new procedures to keep everyone safe, well and active when taking part in a group exercise class.

Frequently Asked Questions - Fitness Classes

How do the latest regulations in Scotland affect Scottish Clubs?

At David Lloyd Aberdeen and Dundee, indoor group exercise is currently unaffected and will continue as it has done since the Clubs reopened.

At David Lloyd Edinburgh Corstorphine, Edinburgh Newhaven Harbour, Glasgow Rouken Glen, Glasgow Renfrew, Glasgow West End and Hamilton, indoor group exercise will be paused from 6pm on Friday 9th October, and should be back up and running on Monday 26th October.

How are you making fitness classes safe?

We're carefully managing the capacity of our classes in line with UKActive guidelines, and are asking members to pre-book their space for every class via our mobile app.

We have set up our studios to ensure that all equipment is spaced at least 2.5 metres apart, with social distancing markings in place to help members keep apart.

Where necessary and where possible we’re continuing to use larger parts of our clubs, including outdoor areas, to give members more space during classes.

We are cleaning all equipment and accessories using a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds. We are allowing adequate time for thorough cleaning between each class. Where possible, we’re locking studios between classes so kit remains sanitised and clean ahead of the next session.

We’re unable to loan any equipment such as cycle shoes, MyZone belts and boxing gloves until further notice. You are, though, be able to purchase these items in the club. We’re also asking members not to bring towels into the studio.

To help protect our team members, class instructors are bringing their own microphone muff to minimise the risk of transmission.

Do I have to pre-book a place for all classes?

To keep everybody safe and help us manage capacity, members are required to pre-book their space for every class via our mobile app.

Are changing rooms open?

Yes, changing rooms are open, with showers and toilets in use. We are taking every other locker out of use to allow for social distancing.

Are bags allowed to be taken into the studio areas?

No, please don’t take your bags into the studios, or into the gym. Our rules have always been that bags are not allowed in the studios or on the gym floor.

It is more important now than ever that this is adhered to. This also applies to any new studio and gym areas that have been created within your Clubs, on tennis courts for example.

Why is there a reduced class timetable?

Each of our Clubs has a unique timetable, with locally chosen classes for members that follow current government guidelines and that offer a choice of workouts to suit a wide variety of fitness needs.

We have tried to make it as simple as possible for our members to understand the type of classes on offer and the benefits each class provides. All whilst ensuring members remain in an individually designated space so that everyone can keep their social distance from other participants, as well as the instructor.

Our amazing freestyle instructors are delivering classes that cover all genres. Whether it’s a cardio or strength workout that you are looking for, or a HIIT class, as well as many Holistic choices, our timetables have it all.

Please ask one of the Group Exercise team at your Club which class would suit you best and if you have any other questions about our group exercise timetable.

Why are the classes only 30 or 45 mins long?

We’ve made the decision to alter our timetable to ensure we have enough time between each class to carry out our thorough cleaning procedures. It also means we can run more classes throughout the day, giving everyone a chance to enjoy a class.

Why did we choose the specific programmes we have to launch our re-opening social distancing Group Exercise timetable?

We have chosen a programme of classes for our members that follow current government guidelines. We have tried to make it as simple as possible for our members to understand the type of classes on offer and the benefits each class provides.

All whilst ensuring members remain in an individually designated space so that everyone can keep their social distance from other participants, as well as the instructor.

Will you be continuing to run a programme of outdoor group classes?

We are continuing with our most popular outdoor group exercise classes and are running outdoor classes where we can.

Are there any changes to Blaze classes?

Blaze classes, like all our classes, are running at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing and to give each member their own lane to work out in.

We have also introduced virtual BLAZE classes, which have been broadcasted from our Studio in Birmingham. Classes are taught by our head trainer, along with our Master Trainers and are available within the Live and On Demand sections of the David Lloyd Clubs App

To reduce the risk of cross-contamination, we’re also unable to loan MyZone belts, gloves or inners. We’re asking members to bring their own, or purchase equipment from reception to help keep members safe and remove the need for sharing equipment.

Are there any changes to Yoga and Pilates classes?

Our yoga and Pilates classes, like all our classes, are running at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing.

All of our Mind and Body studios have clear floor markings to help members to find adequate space, safely distanced from others. We're also using our outdoor spaces at selected clubs to run outdoor yoga and Pilates classes.

We would also encourage members attending a class to bring and use their own mat, if they would feel more comfortable doing so. Mats are also available to purchase from reception.

How are Group Cycling classes affected?

We are safely setting up our Group Cycling studios with bikes positioned a minimum of 2.5m apart. This will mean capacity is reduced.

We are setting aside a minimum of 30 minutes between classes to allow for thorough cleaning of all equipment and touchpoints ahead of the next session.

We’re unable to loan cycling shoes, so we're asking members to bring their own.
