The new state-of-the-art £10 million David Lloyd Rouken Glen health and racquets club has been officially opened by Scottish tennis coach and star of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing Judy Murray, today, Tuesday 6th September 2016.
The 4900sqm club, which is situated next to the leafy Rouken Glen Park, has created more than 75 new local jobs, and is just part of the significant £20million investment in Scotland in 2016.
David Lloyd Rouken Glen is the group’s 93rd club, the third in Glasgow, and offers the whole family unrivalled facilities, services and programmes to achieve their health and fitness goals.
The new club offers extensive tennis and sports facilities, a state-of-the-art fitness area featuring the latest in gym innovation, three indoor exercise studios offering over 100 classes a week, an 18 hole golf course and a dedicated driving range, indoor & outdoor swimming pools, indoor spa and spa garden and a dedicated zone for childrens’ activities.
Officially opening David Lloyd Rouken Glen, Judy Murray commented: “I am delighted to be opening David Lloyd Rouken Glen today. It’s been fantastic to have the opportunity to work with this group of enthusiastic kids from the nearby Thornliebank Primary School.”
She continued: “As a tennis coach, I am fully committed to encouraging youngsters to get active and to try tennis, and these state-of-the-art facilities with three indoor and two outdoor tennis courts, will give the sport a real boost on the South side of Glasgow.”
The inviting indoor heated swimming pool offers a range of activities including aqua aerobics, family swim times and quiet adult only swim sessions. David Lloyd Clubs’ Swim All Stars programme for children will be taught by a team of qualified coaches, catering for all abilities from absolute beginners to advanced improvers.
A centre piece of the club is the 510 sqm gym, which will house David Lloyd Clubs’ cutting-edge gym concept incorporating the latest design and technology, coupled with an unrivalled array of best-in-class equipment.
The gym provids members with the best environment, equipment and experience to support them in achieving their health and fitness goals. Gym Instructors are on hand at all times to provide guidance while a team of qualified personal trainers offer a more bespoke service for those looking to achieve specific, individual goals.
To complement the gym, a full programme of group exercise classes cater for a broad range of tastes and abilities. There are three group exercise studios, including one dedicated to the popular class of indoor cycling.
In addition, the new club offers an 18 hole golf course which is open to non-members on a ‘pay as you go’ basis.
Family sits right at the heart of the David Lloyd Clubs brand and, as a result, children are always welcome. In addition to the structured, progressive coaching available via the All Stars programmes, children are encouraged to get involved in the club’s activity programme, DL Kids.
Sessions take place in a dedicated DL Kids zone, also offering facilities for birthday parties, and are scheduled to synchronise with the adult programme to ensure that the whole family are occupied for the duration of their visit.
Other facilities include a wet spa area and outdoor spa garden, providing a relaxing haven where adult members can de-stress and unwind.
A DLicious cafébar enable members to relax, work or enjoy a meal in modern, stylish and relaxing surroundings, with a great range of healthy options available from the award-winning menu, integrating David Lloyd Clubs’ approach to eating with its exercise expertise.
The cafébar includs an adults-only area and business hub for those looking for some quiet down-time or to catch up on emails.
Every aspect of the Rouken Glen Club is of the highest quality, from the designer fixtures, fittings and furniture, right through to wall surfaces, lighting and even specially produced indoor purple tennis courts. It even has electric car refuelling points in the car park too.
Attending the official opening, Glenn Earlam, CEO of David Lloyd Clubs commented: “The opening of our new club in Rouken Glen is just one part of a significant £20 million investment into our David Lloyd Clubs in Scotland in 2016.”
He continued: “We have spent a further £10 million on refurbishing our clubs in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Newhaven Harbour and Glasgow West End to ensure that we continue to be the leading health and fitness group in Scotland.”
Adding: “It has also had a healthy effect on the Scottish economy; we now employ 420 permanent team, plus a further 280 seasonal and self-employed staff, as many of our fitness and sports team chose to work on a flexible basis.”
The new General Manager of Rouken Glen, Willie Dunne, who previously headed up the team at nearby David Lloyd Renfrew, added: “The Club has received a very warm welcome from the local community who see us as not only a fitness and leisure centre, but also a club where they can come to relax and socialise with friends and family.”
With the basic membership fee the equivalent to less than a daily cup of latte from a high street coffee shop, no wonder David Lloyd Rouken Glen is proving so popular!
