DAVID LLOYD LEISURE ACQUIRES THE CITY GREEN SPORTS AND HEALTH CLUB, GENEVA AS IT CONTINUES ITS EUROPEAN EXPANSION
David Lloyd Leisure (DLL), Europe’s leading health and fitness group, today announces that it has exchanged contracts to acquire the City Green Sport and Health Club, near Geneva. The deal is due to complete in early March and it will become the company’s 112th club. Located just half a mile over the Swiss/French border, and just a ten minute drive from Geneva city centre, City Green is DLL’s first club in France. DLL plans to invest over £5million over the summer months in refurbishing and developing the site.
Including the City Green Club, the company now has 14 clubs in mainland Europe, with locations in Holland, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Italy and now France, in addition to its 98 clubs in the UK. In 2018 DLL continues to look for expansion opportunities across Europe, including acquisitions and new build sites.
2017 was a year of significant growth and investment for the business, which saw the acquisition of 14 UK clubs from Virgin Active, the official opening of the third of its premium brand Harbour Clubs in Kensington, London and the exchange of contracts to acquire three more sites - The Park Club in West London, The Academy Club in Harrogate and the Malaspina Sporting and Health Club in Milan – its first Italian club. A combination of these acquisitions and organic growth mean that David Lloyd Leisure became Europe’s number one health and fitness operator by revenue, and it also has passed its ½ millionth member milestone, with the member count now sitting at around 580,000.
Glenn Earlam, CEO David Lloyd Leisure commented; “City Green is our first club in France and the latest step of our ambitions European growth plans. We are looking to continue our expansion in our existing European territories of Spain, Holland, Belgium, Ireland and Italy as well as breaking into other new markets. 2018 promises to be a busy year for David Lloyd Leisure as we line up further acquisitions and we are well on track to achieve our target of 150 clubs by 2026.”
Situated on the edge of the stunning Lake Geneva, City Green Sports and Health Club is a large family-focused, health and racquets club with premium facilities including 11 tennis courts (5 indoor 6 outdoor), badminton and squash courts, and indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a spa, cafébar and children’s soft play area.
