The Story So Far…
History
Former Davis Cup tennis star David Lloyd pioneered the revolutionary racquets and fitness club concept with the creation of David Lloyd Leisure in 1980. He went on to open the first ever club in Heston in 1982 and influence the modern concept of a racquets, health and fitness club.
In 1995, with 16 clubs open in the UK, Whitbread plc acquired David Lloyd Leisure to enhance its leisure businesses. In 1998, David’s son Scott Lloyd established the first of 15 Next Generation Clubs.
Ten years later in 2007, the owners of Next Generation Clubs, led by Scott acquired David Lloyd Leisure. On 1st January 2008 the two companies formally merged to create the David Lloyd Leisure Group. The merger signified the coming together of two brands synonymous with racquets and premium family facilities.
Our Group now incorporates 85 UK and European David Lloyd Leisure Clubs, two exclusive Harbour Clubs and one Next Generation Club.
The Group has over 474,000 members and 6,000 staff; including an expert health and fitness team of over 1,800 and we contract the services of over 450 tennis professionals. Collectively our Clubs provide over 12,500 exercise machines, over 150 swimming pools and over 10,000 exercise classes a week. Our market-leading racquets facilities are second to none with 700 tennis courts plus 180 badminton courts and 140 squash courts UK-wide.
