Simon began running to keep fit in his early 20’s and took part in a number of races each year. Along with raising money for charity, the races gave him a goal and motivation to train.
This led Simon to start taking part in triathlons and ultra distance running and after reading a book by Dean Karnazes, he was inspired to complete the UK Ultimate Ironman Challenge, which included:
Simon relied on his local David Lloyd Club at Derby to help him reach his maximum fitness levels and ensure he was fit enough to take part in the challenge. He began his day by running to the club for a swim and running home again. He would then return to the club later in the evening for an exercise class.
“In my opinion attending the exercise classes is a great way of getting a quick but highly intensive training session. I regularly do Body Attack, Circuit, SPIN. These compliment my regular training schedule which involves lots of solitary training so group classes are a nice change. I am married with children and run my own business, so time is of a premium. The DL Kids Club gives my wife and I time to train together while the children are safe and having fun.”
After successfully completing UK Ultimate Ironman Challenge in 2009 Simon is now preparing for his next challenge which is to complete an Ironman in every state in America. The only rest Simon will have is the travel time between each state
“After completing the Ultimate Ironman I was desperate to find another challenge and that is why I came up with the idea of the American Ironman. I want to achieve something that no-one else has ever achieved and continue pushing myself.”
