In January 2011, David Lloyd Leisure exclusively launched Zone Cycling; a revolutionary indoor cycling class inspired by Olympians Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.
Zone Cycling is a freestyle class with a set structure of three blocks using a track cycling theme. David Lloyd Leisure instructors gradually increase members’ heart rate through The Ride In (warm-up) to prepare them for the main workout block – The Velodrome.
In preparation for the Grand Final, instructors use sensory elements of music and verbal cues to raise adrenaline levels and help participants feel the exhilaration of winning their ‘race’, further enhanced by Point of View video footage to fully immerse them in the experience.
Success at The Velodrome is followed with a cool-down and recovery period, bringing the heart rate down gradually and incorporating stretches for the main muscle groups. Zone Cycling elevates indoor cycling to a whole new level.
The class is suitable for all levels of fitness, from complete beginner to elite athletes. Drills reveal elements from track cycling events such as Team Pursuit, Individual Pursuit, Points Race and Keirin. The drills used in Zone Cycling represent the kind of exercises Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton do in their actual training sessions.
