Luton News

David Lloyd Luton Golf Society

Our May dates will be:

May 14th, Monday – Beadlow Manor

May 25th, Friday – Aylesbury Vale

Andrew Beale, who is our Club Support Manager, has organised a Golf Society for staff and Members for various dates throughout 2012.

With Aaron Coleman, David Lloyd Luton Personal Trainer, and Dave Plummer, David Lloyd Luton Member, on the unofficial commitee, we have courses throughout Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

The Society is having a year-long calendar of events, held twice a month, with one event on a weekday and one at the weekend.

There will be no joining fees and we have decided to keep this year a bit more casual to make sure everyone gets used to our format, gets to know our other regular Golfers and works on an unofficial handicap system to get it set for 2013.

If you would like to find out more, please email Andrew on ops.luton@davidlloyd.co.uk or see Aaron or Andrew in the Club.

Quiz Night

Do you know the answers to the following questions?

Can you find the connection between all of the following?

1. The 1983 Top Ten (Snowy White) single which begins: "Saw you flying by, flash of turquoise blue, I just had to try, to keep your life in view."

2. The first letter of the surnames of motor car pioneers Charles and Henry.

3. The large cleaver-like tool which, in some Central American regions, is believed to be the best weapon to kill the mythical cadejo.

4. The three-pronged spear which features widely in mythical, historical and modern culture.

5. The name of the plant which precedes 'ville' to give the name of Desperate Dan's home town.

6. The only mythical creature featured in the Chinese calendar.

7. The paint company, founded in the late 1850s, which has its headquarters in Darwen, Lancashire.

8. The animal referred to in the Swahili language as "Simba."

9. The highest civilian decoration awarded in the UK, instituted in 1940.

10. The country where you will find the top-flight football clubs called Omonia, APOEL and Doxa Katokopia.

So, what's the connection? If you know the answer, maybe you should be pitting yourself against the other teams that regularly come to the Quiz Nights!

We'd love to see you and your team. Keep a look-out for the monthly dates.

Our next Quiz will be on Friday 1st June. See you there!

Spin Spin Spin...

Firstly a quick reminder about Bank Holiday Monday 7th May. Our opening hours will be 7.30am-8.30pm. We do have classes running, with family activities at the same time, so no slacking because of the holiday!

Now I would like to mention the early-morning and lunchtime Spin classes.

It seems that these days people are always busy with their lives and tell me they have no time for classes. How about doing an early-morning Spin or even a lunchtime Spin?

We have Wednesday and Friday classes at 7am, and Monday and Wednesday classes at 12.30pm. The classes run for forty-five minutes and are a complete workout. Trust me – I have taken them both. Not on the same day, I might add!

I look forward to seeing you in a couple over the coming weeks.

From the Sports Team

Our latest Lose & Shape Up programme has begun...

We are now in the third week of our current programme. Lauren and Yasmin are having a very successful time running the course, with a lot of our Members doing very, very well.

We will also be starting an Off-Peak programme for those who cannot make it to the evening seminars.

Please keep an eye out in the Club for the dates and times of this.

From the Restaurant

Our Smoothies are back.....

The list of flavours includes:

Pash 'N' Shoot

Strawberry Split

Berry Go Round

Melon Refresh

Each Smoothie provides 2½ of your 5 a day.

All juice is NFC (not from concentrate).

We use only bio-degradable cups, lids and straws. (That means they're made from plants.)

Where possible the company's fruit is locally sourced, but even if that's not possible we still consider the impact on the environment. Take Açaí for example. It is one of the most potent antioxidant super foods on the planet and its harvest provides a viable, sustainable economic resource for the people of the Amazon. In order to grow, Açaí palm requires intact primary Amazon rainforest and currently this means that an area the size of Switzerland is being protected from loggers. So the next time you try one of our smoothies containing Açaí, remember: it's helping you, the Amazon and tribes you'll probably never be fortunate enough to meet.

Our Love Smoothies company have sent us a really great product that is 100% fruit, with either an orange juice or apple juice base. We then add a pouch of frozen fruit, depending on which flavour you want.

Try one in the Club soon...you know it's good for you!

TRX is Here

Come and experience TRX – the most exciting exercise innovation for years.

TRX allows you to train your body in 3D.

What does that mean?

Most exercises you perform in the Gym or in everyday life are carried out in the sagittal plane of motion (frontal axis). A typical example would be a squat.

The TRX allows you to carry out a standard squat not only in the sagittal plane but also in the frontal and transverse planes, enabling you to train your body in 3D.

By training your body in 3D you are targeting muscles you would not normally use when performing these exercises, thereby enhancing your workout and reaching your goals faster.

The TRX allows you to be imaginative with your training. Think how you would do a standard press up. Now imagine yourself on the TRX doing the same press up, and think of all the new possibilities that opens up.

Want to know more? Book in for a TRX taster session with one of the Gym team or one of the Reception team.
