Read on to find out what's happening for children at your Club in May...
Welcome to our fifth Family Newsletter of 2012. May is a busy month for all departments, with the start of new courses and sessions for tennis, swimming and football!
All Stars Swimming
Our second term of the year has begun! If there are any queries from our current swimmers, please get in contact with Josh.
Our Swimming programme follows the ASA National Teaching Plan. Swimmers can join our core teaching programme from 3½ years-old, and start with a Stage One class. We run classes up to Stage Seven, with the learning outcomes increasing in difficulty at each stage. Below is a brief outline of the key criteria of each stage. Where does your child fit?
Stage One – Have good water confidence. Move 5m on their front and back with flotation aids.
Stage Two – Demonstrate safe entry to and exit from the water. Swim 5m on front and back.
Stage Three – Develop rotation skills and swim 10m on front and back with basic technique.
Stage Four – Kick 10m of all four strokes and swim a choice of stroke for 10m with good technique.
Stage Five – Demonstrate watermanship and sculling skills and be able to swim 10m of all four strokes.
Stage Six – Swim with rhythmical breathing on all four strokes, and swim a choice of stroke for 25m.
Stage Seven – Swim 25m of all four strokes with efficient technique, and swim 100m of quality stroke.
Think your child is close to achieving the next stage? Why not book some individual lessons to give your child’s swimming a boost?
Members are entitled to a free swimming assessment with our Swimming Co-ordinator, and following that a free taster in one of our group sessions!
If your child does not fall within these stages, why not try our Tuesday morning Parent and Child class for 1-3 year-olds, or our Parent and Baby class for swimmers under the age of one. Please book a taster session at Reception.
Our Swimming Squad swims on Wednesdays at 6pm for forty-five minutes. This course develops competitive skills as well as elements from synchronised swimming, water polo, personal survival and rookie lifeguard courses.
If you are interested in your child joining the Swimming programme or having individual lessons with one of our instructors, please contact Josh through Reception to arrange a free swimming assessment.
All Stars Tennis
Just a quick reminder that our All Stars term started on 16th April and runs until week commencing 16th July.
There are a limited amount of spaces available on the programme. However we have more availability on our Red Ball courses. These lessons are for children aged 8 and under, and are played with sponge balls on a court measuring 11m X 5.5m (similar to a badminton court). Mini Red tennis is a fantastic way to introduce youngsters into the sport. By using equipment tailored to their needs, they are able to have long rallies and compete against one another. The classes are fun, stimulating and help develop athletic ability and social skills.
For our older players (Juniors, age 11+) we run a free supervised match play session on Wednesdays from 5-6.30pm.
Our sessions are run by LTA-qualified coaches who work with the Lawn Tennis Association to keep sessions fun and current. Our aim for all our Juniors is to teach them a great skill, help them make new friends, and keep them active in a controlled environment.
If you are interested in your child taking part in our All Stars coaching sessions – not just Red Ball but Orange, Green and Yellow as well – then please ask at Reception for more details, or feel free to speak to a Coach at the Club.
