What are the benefits?

  • The healing power of Tai Chi has been well known in Chinese culture for centuries, and used for many disorders. Contemporary research has shown:
  • A correlation between Tai Chi and enhancement of the immune system and a reduction in the incidence o6 falls in older people.
  • Regular practice develops stamina, strength and suppleness. The flowing movements release tension in the muscles and encourage improved circulation.
  • Tai Chi relieves stiffness by working on the elasticity and strength of all your major joints.
  • Tai Chi exercise will help improve posture, coordination and balance, and as it is a weight bearing exercise, it helps maintain bone-density and helps prevent osteoporosis.
  • If you are feeling out of shape, Tai Chi can be excellent for your heart and lungs and raise your level of cardiovascular fitness.

Who can do it?People can do Tai Chi at all stages of fitness. It is not competitive and everyone works at his or her own level and for your own benefit. It does not require special clothing or equipment; just loose, comfortable clothes and soft soled shoes.
One of the great attractions is that it can be practised by people of all ages. It is absorbing, but not exhausting or stressful.
