Real Career Stories

I graduated from University with a BA (Hons) degree in Sports Science and after University I took a field based role in sales and marketing for a competitor. I didn't enjoy this role for a number of reasons, one of them being that the company was not member focused. I wanted to work for David Lloyd but the only job available to me was a Sales Consultant position. This job meant a lot less responsibility, but I climbed the ladder quickly and within 4 months was promoted to Sales and Membership Manager at Enfield, which is a Racquets club. 18 months later I was promoted to General Manager at the club and I love it. I get to meet different people every day, and through getting to know my members I can help them achieve their goals. David Lloyd Leisure is a great place to work.

Rebecca Jones, General Manager - Enfield

I graduated from Nottingham rent University with a Bsc (Hons) degree in Sports Science and Administration 13 years ago.

I joined the industry straight after graduating and worked in corporate fitness. I wanted to move to a larger operator with greater internal opportunities, hence joining David Lloyd Leisure in 2002. I worked in Basildon club as a Duty Manager. I then moved to Sidcup club as Sales and Membership Manager and I was then promoted to General Manager at David Lloyd Finchley, where we received club recognition from both David Lloyd and Whitbread, being nominated for club progress and 'passion for winning' awards. Two years ago I relocated to the North and I now manage the Cheadle Club, and then last year I also took on the role of Cluster Manager for Merseyside and Cheshire.

David Lloyd Leisure is a fantastic working environment, there is great opportunity to develop and progress, both in terms of role and style of management- for me the clear market leader in all aspects in the health and fitness industry.

Stuart Aylott - Cluster General Manager

I started in Operations for Virgin Active in 2001 and following a promotion continued for 4 years as a General Manager , I gained a great introduction to the Health & Fitness industry, but I always recognised that I wanted to work for the 'employer of choice' within the industry - David Lloyd Leisure.

I was fortunate enough to move into a Sales and Membership Manager role at Raynes Park after attending an Assessment Centre. Through this approach, my desire and future capability to be a General Manager again was recognised which I was very impressed with. After being at Raynes Park for a short period of time I was fortunate enough to be promoted to General Manager at Brighton Club - now all I need to do is achieve the expectations and deliver!
