Andy Murray sets youngsters on the road to tennis stardom British number one Andy Murray joined forces with hot-shot tennis stars of the future to launch David Lloyd Leisure’s new ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme in a bid to spot and nurture the next generation of tennis talent. Andy visited the David Lloyd Leisure club in Raynes Park and came under the spotlight by young Murray fans as they hosted their own junior press conference to unveil details of the programme and ask him questions about the game he loves and what he thinks it takes to become a champion. The ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme is a competition for young David Lloyd Leisure members aged 3 – 10 years old held across all 46 of their specialist racquet clubs throughout June and July. The best girl and boy from each club will take part in an expert training session in September – and get to meet Andy in person. After swapping tips with the budding young journalists at the junior press conference Andy, hit with kids from David Lloyd Leisure’s junior Tennis Allstars – an initiative he launched back in 2006 and that has over 3000 members. Andy Murray, talking at the launch of the ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme, said: “I love coming to David Lloyd Leisure and seeing the kids playing tennis and getting really excited about the game. The ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme is a fantastic way to encourage kids to play their best tennis whilst having fun. This is great for the British game. “The coaches at David Lloyd Leisure will ensure the kids are trained professionally giving them a really great start.
